The Holy Spirit Connection in the Old Testament.

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the holy trinity along with God the Father and Jesus the Son.

Although He is mentioned more openly, in the New Testament of the Holy Bible, He was still present and active in the Old Testament; especially during creation and the creation of the first adam (human.) (Genesis 1:1-2, 28; Job 26:13; Psalm 104:28-29; Isaiah 32:15)

When the sons of God decided to take the daughters of men (created of flesh) to be their wives, God stated that His Spirit would not live in human beings forever. (Genesis 6:3) Perhaps it may be considered that 1 Samuel 16:14 supports God’s decision; as “the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul,”.

Another activity of the Holy Spirit was to come upon people; Saul (the newly designated King of Israel) being one example. (1 Samuel 10: 6-13) Other examples include: Bezalel; Moses; The 70 Elders; Gideon; Samson; and the prophets; and David.

The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament is known as :The Spirit; the Spirit of God; the Wind of God or Ruach in Hebrew; Comforter; Counsellor; The spirit of the Sovereign Lord; The Spirit of wisdom and understanding; The Spirit of counsel and might; The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”(Isaiah 11 :2)

During prayer and fasting:

• Ask God to pour out His Holy Spirit upon humanity;

• to transform our hearts to be receptive to His Holy Spirit; and live, so as not to prevent Him working in us and through us.

Bible Reading: Joel 2 :28-29

28 “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh (all humanity). Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. 29And also, My menservants and on My maidservants in those days.”
