Workers Wanted

The great thing about Jesus the Christ, the Messiah, who was long awaited for, is the fact that as the begotten Son of God, He was not afraid to work. It may be that Jesus as a carpenters son, learnt his earthly fathers trade. Even so, He knew what His real purpose was and the prophetic mission He had to fulfil. Matthew 9: 35 – 38 tells us of the great work that Jesus did ; teaching; preaching the gospel of the Kingdom; and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Work the scribes and pharisees should have been able to do for the people. Jesus did not just tell people to do things;

He himself got baptized of the water and the Spirit; and demonstrated the work that needed to be done. The more He did, the more people came to Him to be healed, or taught about the Kingdom of God and what was required of them. It was never a matter of “do as I say and not as I do,” with Jesus!

Matthew tells us that Jesus was moved with compassion when He saw the multitudes. He saw that the people were weary and like sheep scattered, having no shepherd. There was still a lot of work to be done, and the time of His death and resurrection was looming. So, Jesus shared His insight on the problem at hand. There was a great deal more work to be done. Jesus did not heal and teach every living soul in the world before He returned to Heaven. The work He was doing, needed to continue, until He returns as the King, for His followers/ Christians.

The disciples were told to pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest. Jesus needs workers who can comfort others and show them how to live for God. To Jesus, the multitudes metaphorically speaking, appeared as a field, ripe for harvest. A world, full of people who are ready to give their lives to Him- Christ, if only someone would show them the way. Are you prepared for God to use you to show another person, the way to Him? Are you yourself willing to be a worker or labourer of this great harvest of people?

During your prayer and fasting time this week:

- Take a moment to put pen to paper and write down your prayer to the Lord of the harvest.

- Spend time in prayer, praying for followers/ Christians of Christ Jesus, to know how to deal with people’s problems, how to comfort people, for people to be healed or delivered from forms of physical and psychological oppression, as well as demonstrate the life of a follower of Jesus the Christ.

- Pray that people will be willing to work for the harvest.
