Dedicated to God & His service

In Jeremiah 35: 1 – 19 God spoke to Jeremiah. He asked Jeremiah to go to the house of the Rechabites, to speak to them, bring them to the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers, to test them. This act was going to be a lesson for the prophet Jeremiah and in turn, the Jews of Judah, Jerusalem, and the rest of us today.

When Nebuchadnezzar’s army attacked Judah, the Rechabites sought refuge in Jerusalem.

The Rechabites belonged to the Kenites, who accompanied the Israelites into the Holy Land and dwelt among them. The main body of the Kenites dwelt in cities and adopted settled habits of life; but Jehonadab forbade his descendants to drink wine or to live in cities. They were commanded to

always lead a nomadic life to help them to avoid the temptation to join in the idolatry and immorality that was going on.

The Rechabites adhered to the law laid down by Jonadab and were noted for their fidelity to the old established custom of their family in the days of Jeremiah; and this feature of their character is referred to by God for the purpose of giving point to his message to the King of Judah. As a reward for their fidelity, God proclaims that there will always be a descendant of Jonadab in His service.

There is no break in the chain, and for 3,000 years a living testimony of total abstinence has been upheld on the earth.

God desires that we follow Jesus’ example and live our life totally committed to Him.

Are you committed to God and His word, as the Rechabites were to the instructions of Jehonadab? The Holy Spirit is ready and waiting to help us to do so right now. We cannot succeed without His help, His empowerment, and His strength. Are you willing to dedicate/rededicate your life to Jesus and the will of God? Don’t allow anyone or anything to stop you.

In your prayer and fasting time this week:

• Pray asking the Lord to help you to be totally dedicated to Him.

• Ask the Lord to give you the courage and boldness to live rightly, even when others around you choose to do differently.

• Ask Jesus to help you and your church family be available to read, apply and live out the Word of God, according to His purpose for you and the members of the church.

Prayer and Fasting Focus: Rededicated to God and His Service.

Bible reading:

“Let your heart therefore be loyal to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and keep His commandments, as at this day.” 1 kings 8:61 NKJV
