God’s Commitment To Us
What better way could God demonstrate the art of commitment, but by demonstrating it himself.
Isaiah 7:1-17 tells us of the king of Judah named Ahaz. King Ahaz decided that he was not going to be committed to the Lord and receive His help, to overcome the King of Syria (Rezin) who had an alliance with the King of Israel, (Pekah). So, the Lord told the prophet Isaiah to go and meet with king Ahaz at a certain place (verse 3). He then told Isaiah what he was to say to Ahaz (verse 4).
The Lord was committed to giving the king Judah the victory over Syria and Israel. So much so, He spoke again to Ahaz saying, “Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above.” Ahaz’s response was that he would not do so, and neither would he test the Lord. Ahaz may initially appear to be righteous by saying those words, even though God had told him to; but he really didn’t want to know what God had to say about the matter. It was just an excuse. Have you ever found yourself making an excuse, so that you don’t have to bother God, and not communicate with Him?
The Lord mediates through His prophet Isaiah and informs Ahaz of the sign the Lord Himself would give. Isaiah predicted the destruction of Israel’s alliance with Syria; the destruction of Israel by God’s chosen instrument -Assyria for the alliance; and that “the virgin (Mary)shall conceive and bear a Son and shall call His name Immanuel (the Christ). Curds and honey shall He eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the god. For before the Child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land that you dread will be forsaken by both her kings.” (verses 13 – 17)
Sure enough, God kept His word and remained committed to it!
We are presently in the season where Christians all over the world will be remembering and celebrating the fact that His Son, Immanuel/ Jesus come to earth, and was born. Only God would have such a great and wonderful redemptive plan, to save His mankind, just because He loves us so much!
