At The End of Your Rope Is Hope
I remember well being invited to watch a close brother of mine follow his dream. We stood in the middle of a field on a warm summer afternoon, and watched as the small airplane he was in, went up into the sky for what seemed like an age. The plane was almost out of view, when it reached its scheduled altitude of 10,000 feet high. I can’t even begin to imagine what was going through his mind as he was saddled up in tandem with the sky dive instructor. Huge back pack containing the all important parachute. Was he nervous, fearful, or even questioning whether this was actually a good life choice or not. I’ll probably never understand the full extent of emotions he must have gone through in those moments before the side doors of the plane opened, and the instructor said “let’s go, JUMP!!”
And then, free-falling through the sky, plummeting down at great speed, crashing down towards the open field beneath them. With nothing more to cling to but each other…..and hope. Hope that the parachute opens, hope that they don’t go off course, hope that they land smoothly, hope that they make it to the ground alive and in one piece. Nothing to hold onto, but hope.
And then the parachute opened and I watched as my close brother, seemed to float through the air, gracefully, smoothly and taking in all the beauty that surrounded him as he came closer to the ground.
How many times have we found ourselves crashing through life when everything seems to be against us. Free-falling in despair as we can’t see where to make our next move, or how we can overcome a situation. Plummeting down and feeling so broken, and that this really is the end for us, emotionally, physically and spiritually. That’s where our eternal Father steps in. When we let go, and fall into His everlasting arms. It’s at that “let go” moment, He gives us hope.
Isaiah 40:31 tells us that they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
At the end of the sky divers rope was the parachute. At the end of our rope is our Lord and Saviour, our Almighty God, The Alpha and Omega, The Beginning and The End. In Him all things are possible. In Him our hope is found.
In this time of fasting, let go, let God, and fall into His eternal Hope.
God Bless You.
